#7 The Importance of Regional Cooperation during a Pandemic
Hear Dr Irene Lukassowitz, Programme Manager of the EAC-GIZ programme supporting Pandemic Preparedness in the East African Community, discuss how the EAC is focused on improving their response capacity in pandemic crises. Irene talks about adjusting quickly to the COVID-19 crisis, and key actions happening now, including health and safety training for airport personnel in the region together with EAC CASSOA (Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency).

Dr Irene Lukassowitz is a trained journalist and veterinary surgeon. For many years, she worked for German Federal institutions on public health with a focus on risk and crisis communication. Irene caught the “Africa” virus years ago. She loves the continent and lived and worked in South Africa for almost eight eight years. Since 2017, she has managed the Support to Pandemic Preparedness in the EAC region (PanPrep) project from Arusha, Tanzania.
