Ebola, Dengue Fever, River Valley Fever, and many other diseases frequently occur in Africa and could quickly become the next pandemic, so preparing for them in advance is a priority for the EAC. The COVID-19 crisis has highlighted the shortcomings in health systems and regional cooperation. Timothy E. Wesonga has been involved in disease and vector control for over 30 years. He is particularly passionate about the One Health holistic approach in management of diseases. Currently, he provides technical support to the EAC and Partner states in matters relating to emergency preparedness and response to public health events, One Health, sanitary and phytosanitary measures as well food safety. Timothy has experience in disease control, having worked in public and academia in agriculture and environmental sectors at national, regional and international levels.
